Description

This is a late 17th or early 18th century house, now used as an office, located on the west side of Newbury Street in Wantage. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick, distinguished by its headers that are flared and ten courses of glazed brick at storey level, with random bond brick above. It has an old tile roof and no chimney stack. The original plan comprised a single unit. The house has one storey and an attic, with a two-window front. A 20th-century door is set within a mid 19th-century pedimented surround. Segmental header arches frame 20th-century casements on the upper floor. Dentilled eaves run along the top of the building. The gabled roof has a lower eaves line on the right side. A mid 19th-century bow window is set into the right side wall, which has splayed arriss. Inside, the ground floor features a plain beam. The roof structure consists of a two-bay collar-truss system.
