Description
This is a town house, now used as offices, located in Wantage Market Place. It was likely built around 1720 to 1730. The building is constructed of flared header bond brick with red brick quoins and dressings. The roof is not visible. There is a flared brick stack. The building has an L-shaped layout, three storeys, and originally four windows across the front. A 20th-century shop front is present on the ground floor. The first and second floors feature four segmental arches of gauged brick with half-H aprons, containing early 18th-century sash windows with original glazing bars. There is also one blind window, two mid-19th century sash windows, and two blocked windows. A red brick string course and parapet course run along the top of the building; the parapet is panelled with red brick. A brick stack is located on the left corner. The side wall facing No. 2 Newbury Street has a six-window range, including five early 18th-century sash windows with original glazing bars, five blocked windows, and a 20th-century sash window. The interior features early 18th-century six- and two-panelled doors, mid-19th century fireplaces and a staircase located to the rear right. A first-floor room on the left side has panelling dating to around 1730. The roof structure contains collar trusses.
