Description
This is a house, formerly a farmhouse, dating to approximately the early 17th century or earlier, with alterations in the 20th century. The walls are primarily plastered cob, with a stone rubble gable end on the southwest side. The roof is covered in 20th-century green glazed pantiles with gabled ends. There is a volcanic stone axial stack with thatch weatherings, and a stack of stone rubble with set-offs at the gable end.
The original layout comprised three rooms and a through passage, with an apparently unheated lower room. A stack behind the passage heated the hall, and another gable end stack heated the inner room. A later wing was added to the rear of the hall.
The house is one storey with an attic. The front has four window bays. There are 20th-century casements and gabled dormers over the higher end. A 20th-century French window has been inserted into the hall to the right of the center, and a glazed door opens into the passage to the left of the center. A large 20th-century glazed roof canopy extends across the entire front, supported by posts. A gabled wing at the rear has a similar canopy in the angle to the right of the lower end.
Inside the hall, a plank and muntin screen with diagonal stops to the chamfered muntins has been raised on a masonry wall. The hall has a deep chamfered cross beam. There is an axial fireplace with a timber lintel featuring straight-cut stops and stone jambs, and a chamfered cross beam in the lower room. The interior is currently inaccessible.
