Description
West Studham Farmhouse, built around 1850, is a farmhouse constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, featuring stone rubble stacks with 19th-century brick chimney shafts and a slate roof. The house has a double depth plan, facing east, with front and back rooms on either side of a central through-passage that contains the stairs. It is two storeys high with attics and is designed in the Italianate style. The symmetrical front has three windows around a central doorway, which features an original six-panel door with an overlight that includes glazing bars and margin panes, panelled reveals, and a small flat-roofed hood supported by pairs of shaped brackets. Above the door is a 12-pane sash window, and there is an outer series of shaped brackets. The roof has half-hipped ends, and the blind end walls have small pane sashes in the attics. The rear elevation resembles the front but lacks a cornice and door hood. Inside, there is an original stick baluster stair and most of the original joinery and plaster, although the chimney pieces have been replaced. The farmhouse also includes contemporary front garden railings with alternating plain and spear tops.
