Description

Mill Farm is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with significant modernisation in the 19th century and again around 1980. The farmhouse is constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with stone rubble and brick stacks, the latter topped with 19th and 20th-century brick. It has a thatched roof. The plan is of a 2-room design, one room either side of a central through-passage housing the main staircase. Both rooms have end stacks, although the one on the right appears to be a late 19th-century addition. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a secondary lean-to addition to the rear and a circa-1980 extension on the left end. The front elevation is symmetrical with three windows, featuring late 19th-century 3-light casements with glazing bars. A late 19th-century part-glazed 6-panel door sits centrally, sheltered by a contemporary hood on shaped brackets. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. The interior is largely a product of the late 19th-century modernisation, with the fireplace in the left room blocked. However, original 17th-century ceiling beams remain in both rooms; these are chamfered with scroll stops, the beam in the left room being axial, and the other a crossbeam. The roof was not inspected.
