Description

The gate piers to Old Escot House date from the 18th century and are constructed of limestone ashlar. There is a pair of gate piers, but one has collapsed and is now overgrown. The remaining pier is square in section and features channelled rusticated ashlar. Its moulded cap includes a band of carved acanthus leaves, topped with a large pineapple cap, which is very weathered. Old Escot House itself was destroyed by fire in 1808 and was replaced by a new house on a different site.
