Description

Escot Front Lodge is a lodge dated 1869, located at the entrance to Escot Park. It is built in Flemish bond red brick with bands of black brick and Hamstone ashlar detailing. The building features brick stacks and chimneyshafts, and has a red tile roof that includes bands of scallop-shaped tiles and original ridge tiles.

The lodge has a T-plan layout, facing east towards the drive. The front block contains the main entrance hall on the right (south) and the main living room or parlour on the left, with a projecting gable-end stack. A service block projects at right angles to the rear right of the centre and also has a gable-end stack. The building is two storeys tall and designed in the Tudor Gothic style.

The exterior has a one-window front. The doorway, located to the right, features a Hamstone Tudor arch with a hoodmould and is accessed through an internal porch. It contains an original plank door with ornate strap hinges. To the left of the entrance is a canted bay window with stone Tudor arch-headed lights that hold casements with glazing bars. Above this is a stone 2-light gabled half dormer. The main roof is gable-ended with cusped bargeboards. The right (south) end has a 2-light window on each floor, with the lower window featuring a hoodmould. The rear block has a lean-to porch that includes a Tudor arch doorway. The left end stack of the front block has a date plaque inscribed "1K, 1869." The side of the rear block also has a 2-light window on each floor, with the lower window having a hoodmould and the upper one being a gabled half dormer.

The interior has not been inspected. This attractive Victorian lodge is situated by the entrance to the landscaped Escot Park.
