Description

Marsh Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1840. It features a plastered rubble exterior, with rubble stacks topped by 19th-century brick chimney shafts and an asbestos slate roof. The house has a four-room layout and faces south, with two storeys. The symmetrical front has five windows, which include 19th-century 16-pane sash windows and one 20th-century replacement without glazing bars. Stucco pilasters divide the facade into three sections: one on each end and three in the middle. The central entrance has a panelled and glazed door with an overlight featuring glazing bars, and it is framed by a fluted doorcase with small plain brackets and a small hood. There are secondary doors at each end, with the east door sheltered by a slate-roof porch. The eaves cornice is plain, and the low-pitched roof is hipped at both ends. The rear elevation is simpler, with five windows, including a central arch-headed stair window with Gothick glazing bars and some 19th-century leaded stained glass. Most other windows are 19th-century three-light casements with glazing bars and relatively small rectangular panes, retaining much original crown glass. The central door at the rear is a four-panel door with a flat hood on shaped brackets. The interior has not been inspected.
