Description
Westcott Farmhouse is a mid-19th century farmhouse located in Rockbeare. The building features plastered stone rubble up to the first floor level, with cob above, and has stone rubble stacks with plastered brick stacks topped by a slate roof. It is designed in a U-shape, with the main block facing west. This main block has a two-room plan with a central cross passage that contains the stairs. At each end, there are one-room rear blocks that project at right angles.
The front left (northern) room has a projecting end stack, while an axial stack serves back-to-back fireplaces used by both the front right room and the rear block room. A corridor extends northwards from the rear end of the cross passage, situated between the front room and the rear block. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical three-window front featuring 19th and 20th century casements with glazing bars. Notably, one ground floor left window has 15 small panes in each light.
The central entrance consists of a four-panel door flanked by sidelights, leading to a wide flat-roofed porch supported by Tuscan columns on three stone steps, topped with a moulded entablature. The eaves are plain, and the roof is hipped at both ends. The right end return has a three-window front with 20th century replacement casements, while the remainder of the windows are from the 19th century, including one on the first floor left end return that features rectangular panes of leaded glass. Both rear block roofs also have hipped ends. Inside, the farmhouse retains original joinery details, including a straight flight open string stair with stick balusters.
