Description
Youngs Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early 19th century and remodeled in the late 19th century. It is constructed from plastered cob and rubble, with one wall hung with slate. The building features stone rubble stacks with plastered brick chimney shafts and a slate roof.
The farmhouse is L-shaped and faces south, comprising a two-room front block with a stack at the right (east) end. There is a rear block at right angles behind the left room, which has a stack in the wall between two back-to-back fireplaces. The entrance and staircase are located in the block at the angle between the two wings. The building has two storeys with a basement in the front wing.
The symmetrical front has three windows, which were remodeled in the late 19th century, featuring 16-pane sashes and a central 12-pane sash on the first floor. The quoins are made of cream-colored machine brick, and the roof is hipped at both ends. The left (west) side facing the farmyard is slate hung and has three windows, with 20th-century casements except for the 12-pane sashes on each floor towards the front. The east front includes both 19th and 20th-century casements, with the earlier ones having glazing bars.
The stair block has a tall round-headed sash with glazing bars on the east side and a main entrance on the north side, which features a 19th-century six-panel door with incised decoration on the reveals and doorcase. The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse is included for its group value as it is situated opposite the church.
