Description
The raised pavement and steps outside the south gate to St Andrews Churchyard date from the 19th century. They are constructed with a mix of rubble, with the coping and steps primarily made of volcanic ashlar, along with some granite ashlar, and feature a pitched cobble pavement. The pavement, which is neatly laid with pitched cobbles, is approximately 1.4 metres above the road level. On either side, there are four broad steps made of large ashlar blocks. The rubble revettment and tidier coping slope down on both sides next to the steps. The lower pavements on each side display pitched cobbles, which are occasionally visible beneath a 20th-century gravel resurfacing.
