Description
Wild Briar is a house, formerly a shop and adjoining cottage, likely dating from the early 19th century, with extensions added around 1950. The house is built with plastered cob on rubble footings, features a stone rubble stack topped with 20th-century brick, and has a thatched roof, with corrugated asbestos to the extension. The house faces south, away from the road, and consists of a single large room with a rear lateral stack and a former shop on the west end. Rear service outshots were added around 1950. The house is two storeys high, while the former shop is single-storey with an attic. The front of the house has an irregular two-window arrangement with early 20th-century casement windows containing glazing bars, and a 20th-century door at the right end, set behind a glass monopitch roofed porch and glass-walled shelter. The former shop has a 20th-century door at the left end and a contemporary window alongside. The building has a gable-ended roof. Inside, the main room features plain carpentry, including two roughly-finished crossbeams and a blocked rear fireplace. A cob crosswall separates the main house and former shop. The roof was not inspected. The building is included on the list for its group value.
