Description
Snells Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th to early 18th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob stacks topped by 19th and 20th-century brick, and features a thatched roof. The house has a three-room plan and faces southeast, away from the road. It has a right (northeastern) end stack for the room at that end, a rear lateral stack for the middle room, and a small unheated left (southwestern) end room. The building is two storeys high and has an irregular three-window front, which includes various late 19th and early 20th-century casements with glazing bars. There is a late 19th-century four-panel front door located to the right of centre, accompanied by a contemporary hood that now has a corrugated iron roof supported by shaped brackets. The roof is hipped at both ends, and the rear wall facing the road is blind.
Inside, the interior mainly features late 19th-century plaster and joinery, which likely conceals earlier elements. The right room displays a late 17th to early 18th-century soffit-chamfered beam with run-out stops. Both fireplaces in the house are blocked. The roof is inaccessible, and the feet of the trusses are plastered over, but their shape and size suggest they are original A-frame trusses.
