Description
Jewells is a house that likely dates from the 18th century, with a late 19th-century extension. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, featuring stone rubble stacks topped with 19th and 20th-century brick, and has a thatched roof. The original structure has a two-room layout with a central staircase facing south. The right (east) end has a stack, and the left (west) room includes a rear lateral stack. The late 19th-century extension consists of one room with a rear lateral stack on the left end. The building is two storeys high and has a balanced, though not quite symmetrical, three-window front on the original house. This front features a central 19th-century six-panel part-glazed door behind a 20th-century porch with a monopitch roof made of asbestos tiles. The windows, including a single ground floor window in the extension, are a mix of late 19th and 20th-century casements, mostly with glazing bars. The roof is gable-ended on the left and hipped on the right, with the ridge and eaves rising from left to right at the junction of the main house and the extension. Inside, the house has plain carpentry details where visible. Both fireplaces in the original house are large, made of rubble with plain oak lintels, while the extension features a brick fireplace with a segmental arch. The roof has not been inspected.
