TIVERTON Wayland Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Probably late C17, extended (or rebuilt end) late C19. Rendered cob walls; brick to extension; dry slate roof; 2 brick axial stacks and lateral brick stack to rear of extension. 2-room plan with central entrance and stair hall in modified space around lobby entry, later lean-to on the right, late C19 1-room-plan addition or rebuild on the left. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 1:4-window range. Original 4-window range has mid C19 or copy 2, 3 and 4-light casements with glazing bars. Doorway left of centre with 4-panel door; another doorway at right of original part and doorway to lean-to. INTERIOR: has late C17 chamfered crossbeam to hall and plain cross-beam of possibly similar date to room right of entrance hall, fireplace in this room of C17 plan form but lined with stone in the late C20; early C19 staircase. Roof structure not inspected except to note plain feet of probable original trusses visible resting on wall tops.
