Description

Burridge Farmhouse, including stables, is a mid 19th-century estate farmhouse. It features rubble walls with a rendered front, a brick axial stack towards the left, and a brick end stack on the right. The overall U-shaped plan includes a two-storey service wing with a dairy and stables at right angles to the rear right, and a single-storey range attached to the rear courtyard wall at right angles to the rear left, which adjoins a two-storey stable block at the back. The house has three rooms at the front and contains two staircases, along with a lean-to pantry at the rear right.

The exterior is two storeys high with a five-window range. There are segmental arches over original 12-pane hornless sash windows, with the presumed kitchen window on the right being wider and tripartite with narrower sidelights. A round-arched doorway is centrally located in the three-window range on the left, featuring a spoked fanlight above the original panelled and V-jointed door. The unaltered rear has 12-pane sashes on the first floor, while the ground floor includes an open verandah attached to a small brick lean-to in front of the service wing. A well and an iron pump are located under the verandah.

The service wing retains its original windows and doors, although the original rear end first-floor doorway has been converted into a window with a fixed light and margin panes. The other buildings also remain unaltered, keeping their original doors and windows. The stables have a symmetrical two-window front with original two-light shuttered windows. Burridge is a notable example of a mid 19th-century estate farmhouse that maintains a strong relationship with its ancillary buildings.
