Description
Ford Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 16th or 17th century and was remodeled in the 19th century. It has a rendered exterior, probably built on cob, and features an asbestos slate roof with projecting eaves that replaced the original thatch. The building has a large external lateral stack at the front with a tall extended shaft and is presumed to have a three-room plan, with the original hall located to the left of center, heated by the lateral stack.
The exterior is two storeys high, likely since the 17th century, and has a four-window range with old two- and three-light casement windows that include glazing bars. The ground-floor window at the far right, which serves the lower end, is stepped down. The present doorway is near the left and features a four-panel top-glazed door, but the presumed original doorway position is to the right of the lateral stack, where there is now a two-light window that likely fronted a passage.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is expected to retain original or old features of interest, as the roof structure of early farmhouses in Devon is often notable.
