Description

Langstone Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid to late 17th century, with an extension added in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble and has a slate roof with hipped ends, along with a parallel range at the rear that also features hipped ends. The original structure includes two rendered rear lateral stacks that were incorporated as axial stacks when the house was extended. The rear range has a central stone rubble axial stack.

The original layout likely consisted of a two-room arrangement with a cross or through passage, with both rooms heated by the rear lateral stacks. There may have been a staircase at the back of the passage, or one added shortly after, which was incorporated into the later rear extension that included a service range.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an almost symmetrical three-window front. The central entrance features a 19th-century six-panel door with a chamfered 17th-century timber lintel that has ogee stops, topped with a slate hood. On either side of the entrance are two 20th-century windows with dressed stone voussoirs above the arches. The first floor has two 19th-century three-light casements flanking a 20th-century window, with each window opening having chamfered lintels with ogee stops. There is a battered plinth on the left side.

The rear elevation displays dressed stone arches and brick jambs around the openings. Inside, there is a wide cross passage, and the left room features a fireplace with an unmoulded timber lintel and a 20th-century grate. The interior has only been partially inspected.
