Description
No. 1 Chapel Street is a cottage located at the end of a row in Uffculme. It likely dates from the 18th century and is mentioned in a deed from 1813 that is in the possession of the owner. The cottage is constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings and features a gable end slate roof. It has a two-room layout with a central cross-passage and a single room, along with a rear wing attached to the right-hand room. Both rooms are heated by a stack that is axial to the wing, indicating that the overall L-shaped plan was likely built at the same time. The cottage stands two storeys tall.
The front exterior facing Chapel Street has a two-window range, with two and three-light 19th-century casement windows on the first floor, one 19th-century window on the ground floor, and a late 20th-century door beneath a canopy. The High Street side features one three-light casement window on each floor. This cottage adds to the character of the village scene.
