Description

The London Inn is a public house located on the south side of High Street in Uffculme. It dates from the mid-19th century and is likely contemporary with the adjoining brewery, which was established in 1858 and for which the inn served as the tap room. The building is constructed of brick and features a gable end slate roof.

This small Victorian public house remains largely unaltered, with its internal layout intact. Inside, there is a small bar to the left of the entrance, a tiny snug to the right, and a kitchen at the far right, with private rooms located above. At the rear, there is a yard accessed through a wagon entrance to the right of the pub. The yard is enclosed on the right by an outbuilding that has served as a skittles alley since before the First World War, with original skittles and a return gulley still in place. The building has end stacks and is two storeys high.

The exterior features a four-window range on the front, with two-light casement windows on the first floor, each having eight panes per light. The ground floor includes a 20th-century window for the bar and two 19th-century casement windows to the right. Extending to the right along High Street is a random rubble range that likely served as a stable block, complete with loft access and round ventilators. Much of the original joinery inside the pub has been preserved.
