Description

This is a house, originally dating from the 17th century, that was remodelled in the mid-19th century. It is located on the north side of High Street in Uffculme. The building is constructed of plastered cob and rubble, with a gable end slate roof featuring overhanging eaves supported by shaped brackets. The original design was a 3-room house with a through-passage, with the service end located to the right of the passage. It was extended towards the higher end, likely in the mid-19th century. The main hall was heated by a central stack backing onto the passage, while end stacks were present, the one on the right potentially serving the adjacent house at number 7. A rear lateral stack, which once heated the service end, is no longer functioning.

The front of the house has a five-window facade. The first floor features 16-pane hornless sash windows, some of which retain their original crown glass panes. The ground floor has three sash windows to the left of the entrance, one to the right, and a doorway with reeded pilasters and a moulded canopy. A hornless sash window is located at the left-hand end, with a late-20th-century casement window above. Some 19th-century casement windows are present at the rear.

Inside, the hall retains a chamfered axial ceiling beam with shallow step stops. The rest of the joinery is from the mid-19th century, including internal panelled shutters.
