Linhay Approximately 10 Metres South Of Moor Farmhouse

This linhay, located approximately 10 metres south of Moor Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century. It features cob outer walls built on rubble footings, with an oak and elm frame and a corrugated iron roof that was originally thatch. The structure is L-shaped, facing into a courtyard to the north and west. The east range consists of six bays, while the south range has four bays, including a cob-walled stable in the fifth bay.

Timber posts and beams are tied into the rear cob walls and the structure is open on both levels, except for some 20th-century breeze block walling in the south wing. The timbers are roughly squared and of large scantling, with front posts resting on stone bases. These posts have slightly jowled projections that provide additional support to the first-floor cross beams and feature deep slots at the top to clasp the trusses, which are A-frames with lap-jointed collars. The construction is jointed and pegged, with many timbers displaying gouged carpenter's assembly marks, including either Roman numerals or rows of semi-circles. A projecting pent roof has been added in the 20th century, along with a wrought-iron weather vane on the north gable. This linhay is well-preserved and represents an early example of its type.
