Description
Zephyr is a mid-19th century house located in Shobrooke, known for its stuccoed brick or stone exterior and exposed brick tops on the chimney stacks. The building features a slate roof and stands two stories tall with attics. It has a double depth, four-room plan under a single roof, with two stacks that project from the front and rear above each gable end.
The front of the house is symmetrical, with three windows that contain 12-pane sash designs. The central entrance features a four-panel door that is now partly glazed, surrounded by panelled reveals and a wooden doorcase. This doorcase is decorated with incised pilasters and an entablature that includes a Doric frieze with triglyphs and guttae. An iron gutter is adorned with cast-iron lions' masks over the joints.
The gable ends of the house each have a single bullseye window in the attic, and both gables are enhanced by shaped bargeboards that include open-work frets and pendants at the apex.
