Description
Pennicott Cottage is a house that was formerly a small farmhouse, dating from the late 16th century to the early 17th century. It features cob stacks topped with 19th-century brick and has a thatched roof that is hipped at both ends. The building has been altered and has a three-room and through passage plan, with an inner room located to the east (left of the front). It is two storeys high and has a stone stack that projects to the rear of the hall. The front has two windows facing the road, situated between a large projecting stack for the service room on the right and a projecting stair turret on the left. The right-hand window occupies the position of the original passage door, which is opposite a door in the rear wall. The rear features timber window frames of varying patterns, all with glazing bars and small panes. Inside, the hall contains a 16th-century stone fireplace with a chamfered oak lintel that has step stops, along with a step-stopped cross beam. The roof is supported by two original closed trusses, with the framing exposed in the roof space. The hipped ends are likely of 19th-century construction.
