Description
Fitzgrove Cottages are a pair of cottages, likely built in the 18th century. They are constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob and stone stacks topped with 20th-century brick. The cottages feature a thatched roof with three gables and are two-storey structures with two rooms each, facing southwest. There is a central cross wall that contains an axial stack, along with projecting gable-end stacks that have thatch-roofed side ovens. At the rear, there are integral outshuts. The right cottage retains its original fenestration, which includes two windows with a central door and a window in each gable above. The windows are three-light timber frames with a central casement and eight panes per light, complete with glazing bars. However, the ground floor window on the right has a 20th-century replacement frame. The left cottage may have a blocked right-side window, and the left-side windows are 20th-century replacements. Inside, there are unstopped chamfered crossbeams and doors leading from the outer rooms (kitchens) to the outshots. The roof has not been inspected.
