Description
This linhay, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, is located approximately 3 metres southeast of Scorlinch Farmhouse. It is constructed from cob on stone rubble footings, with some brick patching, particularly at the west end, and features a corrugated asbestos roof that was formerly thatch. The linhay is open-fronted and faces north, consisting of 6 bays. The right four bays serve as a linhay with a tallet or hayloft above, while the left two bays are full height and likely used as a cartshed. This structure is of Alcock's type T1 linhay design, featuring full height timber posts. The crossbeams for the tallet or hayloft are roughly chamfered with run-out stops and are tusk-tenoned through the front posts. The outer principals of the roof trusses are supported by the posts, and the roof is constructed with A-frame trusses that have spiked lap-jointed collars, which bear carpenter's assembly marks.
