Description
Clyst St Lawrence Bridge is a small road bridge over the River Clyst, likely built in the 18th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble arranged in rough courses, with larger and neater stone blocks at the base, along with some conglomerate ashlar dressings and areas of brick rebuilding. The bridge features two spans with segmental arches that spring from vertical abutments. The voussoirs on the upstream (north) side are made of conglomerate ashlar, while one arch on the downstream side has been replaced with brick. The other downstream arch now has a 20th-century concrete lintel. A central pier features a pointed cutwater on the upstream side that rises to the parapet, creating a small refuge. The parapet is topped with rounded conglomerate stone coping, but the downstream side parapet has been removed and replaced with 20th-century tubular steel railings. The road ramps over the bridge.
