Description

The churchyard cross dates from the 15th century and is located in Clyst St Lawrence. The pedestal is made of volcanic stone rubble, while the cross itself is crafted from Hamstone ashlar. The pedestal features two octagonal steps, with the lower step paved with volcanic slabs and the upper step made of Hamstone ashlar. Atop the pedestal is an octagonal socket stone set on a low chamfered plinth. The shaft of the cross has a square section that slightly tapers and includes pinnacled nook shafts at each corner. The top of the cross is adorned with the much-damaged lower portion of a canopy head above an ornamental knop. On the east side, there are remains of a canopied niche.
