Description

Southview is a detached house located on the south-west side of Bradninch Millway, dating from around 1840, with a later extension on the left side. The building is constructed of cob with a stone plinth, plastered, and features a decorative slate roof that is gabled at the right end and hipped at the left. It has a right-hand end stack and an axial stack, which was formerly a left-hand end stack. The house is two storeys high and has a front elevation facing the garden with a range of four windows. The entrance is positioned to the right of the center and is sheltered by a small moulded canopy. The upper windows are 8-pane hornless sashes, some of which still have crown glass. On the ground floor, there are three French windows, each with two lights, five panes, and margin panes per light. All windows are fitted with external shutters. The house features a moulded gutter box and bargeboarding on the gable ends. The garden wall along Millway is made of brick in Flemish bond, with a black brick plinth and coping, stone-capped pilasters, and includes one garden entrance and one wagon entrance, the latter featuring early 19th-century planked and panelled double gates. This wall is included in the listing due to its contribution to the town scene.
