Description

Baptist chapel, dated 1832, with rear extensions from 1870 and the 20th century, and a front porch added in 1917. The building is rendered and has a gabled slate roof. It is two storeys high with a front that has three bays under a gable end featuring a parapet and a diamond-shaped datestone in the gable wall. Each bay has a triangular-headed window, divided by giant pilasters with moulded capitals, and identical pilaster quoins. The middle bay is wider than the others. The upper windows are two lights, triangular headed, with eight panes per light and diamond-shaped top lights. The ground-floor side windows are similar but were originally entrances before the central porch was added; they are flat-roofed, with an entrance on the left side and a three-light square-headed window at the front.

The side elevations have five windows, three for the 'nave' and two for the 'chancel', with some blocked towards the entrance end. The two-light triangular-headed windows on the left side 'nave' have lost their top lights due to a double-glazing scheme in the 1980s, while the right-hand side windows retain their original glazing with eight panes per light. The red brick rear extension, built for a schoolroom in 1870, and a roughcast room from the 20th century supported on stilts do not have special architectural character.

Inside, the chapel features a plain ceiled roof and a timber gallery at the entrance end, which has three pairs of panels with Greek key motifs divided by pilasters, all under a moulded cornice and rail, accessed by a staircase with turned balusters. The porch window includes a First World War memorial window depicting St George, St Michael, and Joan of Arc.
