Description

Old Rugg's is a former farmhouse dating to the early 16th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with an asbestos slate roof featuring gabled ends. The building is two storeys high and has a long, six-window front. Modern three- and four-light casement windows are set into the facade. A wide, boarded door is set within a heavy wooden doorframe, positioned off-centre. The ridge and end stacks have been rebuilt in brick. The interior comprises six bays with jointed arch trusses. A cross passage is present, although the original screen has been ceiled over with later panelling and plaster, incorporating an inserted moulded timber ceiling. One fireplace has a chamfered bressummer, while another features a moulded and crenellated bressummer.
