Description

These are a group of three late 18th-century houses on High Street. They are constructed with stucco and have a cornice at the eaves, covered with slate roofs and hipped forms. Numbers 149 and 151 feature half-round bay windows and round-arched entrances with six-panel doors and radial-bar fanlights. Number 149, known as Portland House, has a poorly designed, pedimented doorcase that appears to have been added or altered. Number 153 is a wing with stippled rendering, tinted a pale color. It has a recessed arched entrance with a radial-bar fanlight and six-panel door, a three-light sash window on the upper floors, and sash windows on the ground floor, all with glazing bars. The buildings are included on the list because of their contribution to the area's group value, along with numbers 143 to 157 on the same side of the street.
