Description
Budlake Farmhouse is a farmhouse that may have originally served as a mill with an attached miller's house, primarily dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of volcanic trap random rubble and features a gabled-end roof. The main range consists of two sections: the left side is three storeys high, likely the former mill, while the right side is two storeys, with a vertical masonry joint between them, although they share the same roof ridge level. There is a rear wing that has an external end stack made of stone with a brick shaft, which may include older construction.
The front of the building displays an asymmetrical design on the three-storey section and a symmetrical design on the two-storey section. The three-storey part features a glazed porch with a leaded roof and wavy bargeboarding, positioned to the right of a four-light timber casement window that has margin panes and glazing bars beneath a stone relieving arch. There are two two-light wooden casement windows on each of the upper floors. The two-storey section has a three-window range with two hornless timber sash windows, each with eight panes per sash, flanking a matching glazed porch. The upper windows are timber sashes, with four panes in the top sash and eight in the bottom. The building has axial and right-hand end brick stacks. The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse is included for its group value.
