Description

SS 90 SE BROADCLYST BUDLAKE

2/74 - Budlake Farmhouse 30.6.61 GV II

Farmhouse; probably once a mill with miller's house attached. Mainly early C19. Volcanic trap random rubble under gabled-end roof. 2 builds to main range: 3 storeys to left (probably the former mill), 2 to right with vertical masonry joint in between but sharing the same roof-ridge level. A rear wing (with external end stack, stone with brick shaft) might incorporate older work. A datestone on a nearby farm building, not in situ, gives G.F.1635. Front: the 3-storey section is asymmetrical, the 2-storey symmetrical. The former with glazed porch (under a leaded roof and wavy bargeboarding) which stands to the right of a 4-light timber casement window, with margin panes and glazing bars under stone relieving arch. Two 2-light wooden casement windows to each of the upper floors. The 2-storeyed section, 3-window range with 2 hornless timber sash windows, 8 panes per sash either side of matching glazed porch. Windows above, timber sashes, 4 panes to top sash, 8 to bottom. Axial and right-hand end brick stacks. Interior not inspected. Included for group value.
