Description
Haglis Cottage is a cottage dating from around 1800, constructed of cob with a stone plinth and rendered under a hipped thatched roof. It has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall. The front features a three-window range, with a simply planked door located to the left of centre beneath an open timber lattice-work porch. To the left of the porch is a three-light timber casement window, each light containing 18 leaded panes, while to the right are two two-light windows, each with 13 leaded panes and ogee-headed lights. The first floor has three-light windows, also with 18 leaded panes per light, and the lintels of these windows just break the eaves line. There is an axial stack, and the right-hand rear wing includes a two-light casement window with six panes per light and an external end stack. At the rear, on the inner side elevation of the wing and the outshut, there are three three-light windows with eight leaded panes per light, featuring glazing bars, where the outer lights are fixed. Internal panelled shutters are present. This charming Gothick cottage was originally the home of the Head Gardener for the Acland (Killerton) estate.
