Description

The Hermitage is a 17th-century building located on Vicarage Road. It features a two-storey stucco front that is positioned at right angles to the road. The gable end has a slate roof, with bargeboards and eaves fascia that are cut in a trefoil pattern. The elevation is symmetrical, with two-storey flanking canted bays and a narrow central window, all fitted with Gothic sashes. Originally a farmhouse, it was refurbished as a villa in the early 19th century. The Hermitage, along with The Balsters and The Shrubbery, forms a group of buildings.
