Description

Sawden Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the late 17th century, located on Sowden Lane in Lympstone. The exterior is roughcast cob with stone footings, and it features a gable-end thatched roof. The cottage follows a single-depth plan with a rear outshut, and the staircase is situated in the left-hand rear corner. A right-hand external end stack is present. The front facade is symmetrical, displaying a two-window range. There are two-light casement windows on the first floor, and one window to either side of a wide, halved-glazed planked front door. A porch with a simple slate canopy and wooden posts is situated in front of the door. A 19th-century porch and a lean-to addition are located at the right-hand end. Inside, the roof is a simple A-profile.
