Description
The Mill is a water mill and miller's house located in Lympstone, dating from the early 19th century with later alterations. It is constructed of cob on stone footings and brick, with a plastered and pinkwashed finish, and features gabled-end slate roofs. The miller's house, situated to the left, consists of two adjacent parallel ranges that are at right angles and project forward from the mill itself on the right. This house includes a drying room and ovens used for processing malt, and it is powered by an overshot water wheel located at the right-hand end.
The mill has 19th-century openings, including two on the gable wall and one on the first floor of the wheel end, as well as single and two-light windows on the front, along with a delivery hatch on the first floor. The house has a twin gabled front adorned with wavy bargeboarding and spike finials. The range closest to the mill is likely the original structure, partly made of cob but extensively repaired with brick, featuring horned sash windows and 20th-century single-light casement windows. The other range is three storeys high and has a pantiled porch with horned sash windows.
