Description

These two cottages, known as Haymore Thatch and Town Dairy Cottage, stand at the end of a row of properties, namely Nos. 1 and 2 Laureldale and Hares. The cottages date back to the 18th century, with later additions to the rear in the 19th century. The front walls are built of blocked plastered cob, set on stone footings. The roof is thatched at the ends, while the rear wings have brick walls with gabled slate roofs. The cottages have a single-depth plan with rear wings and contain end stacks with brick shafts. The front elevation features an irregular 2-window arrangement. The first floor has small windows, one being a 4-pane horizontally sliding sash window with a lintel at eaves level. The ground floor includes a horned sash window, a single-light 4-pane window, two 20th-century front doors, and a former shop window featuring a bracketed cornice and small pilasters, dating from the 19th century. This shop window extends along the right-hand elevation. Two 20th-century casement windows are located on the first floor of this end.
