Description

Lyemarsh Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The front is made of small squared and coursed limestone, while the other walls are constructed from rubble. The right half of the building has a thatched roof, and the left half features a Welsh slate roof, with a lean-to on the right that has a pantile roof. The original structure has a two-room plan with a fireplace on the left and a gable entry, with the stair located at the front center. There is a one-bay extension on the left, which includes a door next to the former gable entry.

The farmhouse has two storeys and features a total of three windows on the left part, which has 3-light small-paned casements at each level. There is a plank door to the right at the junction with the older unit, which has two 2-light horizontal bar casements, one of which was previously a door. The upper level of this unit has two 2-light casements with early leading. The lean-to includes a plank door and two 2-light brick stacks, located at the left gable and at the junction. The back of the farmhouse has various 2-light windows with leading or glazing bars, and the right end is hipped over a casement.

Inside, the farmhouse features an oak winder stair, heavy transverse beams, and exposed joists, along with an original simple 2-purlin steep roof. This farmhouse is a rare example of an unmodified structure.
