Description
Hincks Mill Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse constructed from coursed squared limestone with a Roman tile roof. The building has a large L-shaped plan with gabled outer ends and a hipped return corner. The entrance is located in the internal angle and the west front faces a stream called Shreen Water.
The farmhouse is two storeys high. On the north front, which faces the road, there are two wide-spaced bays: to the left is a 16 over 20-pane sash window, and to the right are paired 8-pane sashes above a cross-window with paired casements. A large central ridge stack is present.
On the return side facing the stream, the building is set on an offset plinth of considerable depth and features four windows at the ground floor: a paired 10-pane sash, a single 10-pane sash, a 25-pane sash, and a door opening. The first floor has a 16-pane sash, a 12-pane sash, and another 16-pane sash, along with a 2-light 20th-century casement. The left end has a 25-pane sash at the ground floor and an opening to the right.
The south-facing gable has one large 20th-century casement window over two smaller ones, with the upper one modified from original voussoirs, and a small brick stack. The internal east front features two 20-pane sashes over one 25-pane sash, and in the corner, there is a 20th-century glazed door with a side light and a 5-pane transom light. The south-facing front has three 20-pane sashes over three 24-pane sashes, with a panelled door in a gabled porch located off-centre to the right.
The interior has not been inspected, but the exterior of the building remains largely unaltered and is a good example of the larger farmhouse style typical of the area.
