Description
Chantry Cottage is a former service range that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 16th, 17th, and 20th centuries. The building features a mix of coursed rubble and squared and coursed rubble, with a tile roof on the eastern side and a slate roof on the western side. It is a long, low structure with coped verges and a tall, wide throughway at the north end.
The west face, which faces the road, has a wide opening with 16th-century moulded stone jambs and a wooden lintel, leading to a pair of 20th-century plank doors. To the right of this opening is mainly plain walling, which includes a tall square external eaves stack and two lights at the south end. The east front, which overlooks the garden of The Chantry, is two storeys high and features four windows arranged in a 2+2 pattern. There is a single storey section to the left with two 2-light casements, followed by a slightly recessed two-storey section with two 2-light windows on each level. This section culminates in a large basket-arch opening with a pair of wide half-glazed doors. At the north end, beyond the throughway, is the stable block, which has a 4-centred chamfered doorway.
