Description

New Lodge is a Grade II listed building, dated 1878, located on the west side of the B3095 in Mere. It serves as the lodge to Zeals House. The building is constructed from coursed snecked limestone and features a plain tile roof. It has a T-plan layout and is designed in a picturesque style, standing two storeys tall.

The east side facing the road has a series of stone mullioned casements with diamond leading, set to stopped drips. There is a single light window in the gable, along with a full gable that includes two lights on each level. To the left, there is a gabled porch with an arched opening above the door.

On the south front, a three-light casement is positioned above a canted bay window with a configuration of 1:2:1 lights, topped with a tiled roof. The gable features a panel with the lettering "CEL." The east front displays the date 1878 on the rainwater head, with a gable above a two-light window and a canted bay similar to the south front, as well as a small triangular-plan oriel.

All gables are coped and have moulded kneelers, while a large central cruciform ashlar stack with a square base and deep moulded capping adds to the architectural interest. The exterior remains largely unaltered and is considered a fine example of its type.
