Description
Upper Olchon is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with 20th-century alterations. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a roof that is part stone slate, part Welsh slate, and part tiled. The building has a rectangular plan aligned northeast to southwest and faces southeast, with minor additions to the rear. The northeast section appears to be a slightly later addition that encloses a former gable-end stack, and there is a further axial stack backing onto the through-passage.
The farmhouse is single storey with an attic. The southeast front includes one dormer with a three-light casement window and two half-dormers with two-light and three-light casement windows. There is a small four-pane window below the eaves to the right. On the ground floor, there are two three-light windows to the left and one three-light window to the right, all with wooden frames, plain mullions, and hood moulds. To the right, there is an additional eight-pane window and a lean-to stone porch with a part-glazed ledged door.
Inside, the farmhouse retains a plank-and-muntin panelled screen with a segmental-headed doorway, as well as a similar doorway in the main room and a stone winder staircase.
