Description

Lower Whyle is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made during the 18th century and early to mid-19th century, along with further changes in the 20th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features Welsh slate roofs. The main rectangular block has three gables on the northeast side, with an additional wing added at the northern end. The entrance, located on the northeast side, includes a former through-passage. The building has lateral and gable-end stacks and consists of two storeys, attics, and cellars.

On the northeast front, there are two gables to the left of an external stack and one gable to the right, featuring 2-light 20th-century casement windows. The first floor has three 3-light casement windows, with two to the left and one to the right of the stack. On the ground floor, there is a similar 3-light window to the left and a 2-light window along with another 3-light casement window to the right of a semi-circular headed 20th-century doorway with a glazed inner door. The gable end of the later wing projects forward to the right, showcasing 3-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors.

Inside, the farmhouse retains chamfered and moulded ceiling beams, as well as a 17th-century staircase featuring turned balusters and a moulded handrail.
