Description
Strangeworth is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with additions made in the late 19th century. It features square panelled timber-framing that is revealed on the interior, a sandstone rubble plinth, and brick refacing, all of which are completely roughcast rendered. The roof is made of Welsh slate. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with wings aligned north-west/south-east and north-east/south-west, and entrances located to the south-west and south-east, along with axial and lateral stacks.
The north-west front has a gable end on the left wing, which features an upper jettied storey supported by a moulded bressummer with traces of curved brackets. There is one 2-light casement window with part decorative lozenge glazing on the ground floor. The right wing has one single light window to the left and one 2-light casement window to the right of a projecting external stack, with the ground floor displaying 2-light casements flanking the stack. A four-panelled door is situated to the south-west in the angle of the L. Inside, the farmhouse reveals chamfered and moulded beams, with an interesting leaf pattern on the stops of the beams in the central room on the ground floor.
