Description

The Balance Farmhouse is an estate farmhouse dating to 1838, marked with the initials EBC Greenly. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, brick chimney shafts, and a Welsh slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan with a central entrance and gable-end stacks, and a continuous outbuilding to the rear. It is two storeys high with an attic. The front elevation features a central, gabled, two-storey and attic porch. This porch has a small four-pane window in its gable and a two-centred arched head to its first-floor window, with a square label and decorative glazing. The same arched head applies to the doorway, which has an inner, square-headed doorway with a plain overlight and a 20th-century panelled door. Flanking the porch are multi-pane cast iron windows with segmental heads.
