Description
Pynsent Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on the north side of The Green in Urchfont. It is timber framed with brick noggings and features a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic and consists of three bays. The central half bay contains a stack and stair, while there is an unheated bay on the right and an added half bay on the left from the late 18th to early 19th century. The framing has two panels high on stone sills, with corner braces. The cottage has a boarded door and paned timber windows, along with two 3-light flush dormers and a central chimney.
Inside, the main fireplace in the right room is blocked, and there is a lobby to the rear. The interior includes chamfered spine beams with check and scoop stops. The roof features clasped purlins and windbraces in the parlour bay. A wattle and daub hood and stack were replaced with brick in 1938.
