Description
The Ark is a house located in Urchfont, dating from the 17th to 18th century, with remodeling and heightening that occurred around 1870 to 1880. The building is constructed from greensand rubble and faced with Flemish bond brickwork, topped with a slate roof. It stands two storeys high, raised to include a semi-attic, and features three bays. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door with a flat canopy supported by cut brackets. On either side of the door are paired 12-paned sash windows with gauged brick lintels. A cogged string course runs along the building, with nine-pane sashes on the first floor beneath a second cogged string, which was formerly the eaves course. The house has two flush gabled dormers and gable stacks. To the right, there is a single-storey service extension with a gable stack, which is now partly encased in a 20th-century two-storey lean-to extension that covers the two right bays of the house. Additionally, there is a pantiled stable located at the rear.
