Description

This milestone, located approximately 460 meters north of Beckhampton Roundabout on the A361, dates from around 1770 and marks the Swindon to Devizes turnpike. It is made of painted sarsen stone and features a shaft that is a chord of a cylinder with a grooved top. The painted inscriptions indicate the distances to Swindon (12 miles to the left) and Devizes (8 miles to the right), along with a bench mark.
