Description
This milestone, located east of the village center, dates from the early 19th century and is associated with the later Swindon to Marlborough turnpike. It is made of painted stone and has a shaft shaped like a chord of a cylinder, featuring a grooved top. The painted inscription reads: "TO SWINDON / 9 / MARLBRO 2." At the top, there is a bench mark and a brass pin inserted. The road was turnpiked in 1819 to replace the previous turnpike over Ogbourne Maisey Down.
